Suspend judgment after this next word: Ukulele. Really, if you think you know what to expect, guess again.
02.19.13
Some projects really transcend work and make you think about life in a slightly bigger way. Our interview with Lenore Alexander was one of those. We're also delighted Lenore will be featured on the Katie Couric show Feb. 20. Getting the word out about medical errors can only help prevent more tragedies in the future.
01.10.13
We love our jobs, so we love working on the CareFusion Life-changers campaign. (Plus Mark got to got to go to England and Germany for a quick trip.)
12.21.12
We're out of the office until January 2, 2013, but if you shoot an email to one of us, you're likely to get a response, justa little slower than usual. Thanks for everything in 2012!
12.10.12
While frantically at work on many client launches, the work is all under wraps right now. We can show you our latest pro bono work for another great cause here in San Diego that we definitely don't want to keep under cover: Bannister Family House.
11.21.12
We'll close at 1 pm on November 21 for the long weekend (unless we magically get all our work done and can close a little earlier). If you need anything, just email us--we won't be able to keep away from our various devices.
11.16.12
You hear actors are so petite, but this is possibly our tiniest talent ever. At the UCSD Health System NICU, photo courtesy of client Amelia McLaughlin.
10.15.12
As you drive into Solana Beach from Cardiff on Coast Highway, you pass the Gateway Property, which is now a part of the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy. It will stay part of the wetlands, provided they can raise the funds to repay their lenders. We hope this pro bono video helps the cause. You can learn more at
sanelijo.org/gateway-park
.
10.03.12
We think this is a great example of our work creatively. It's also a typical client project for us: About developments available right now that will change the future for all of us. Another ringside seat to an amazing, smart development with every detail carefully considered. This is why we love our work and our clients.
09.25.12
We feel much the same as CareFusion life-changer Paul Gast. When we help our clients get their big ideas in front of the right people, for funding, marketing, or selling, we get to change the world just a little bit for the better.
09.07.12
Well, our summer was busy. Here's a little update on one of our recent favorites. In context, you can link to it at
at Qualcomm's site
.
09.01.12
Yes, Susan knows it's been a while since she updated the site. Half-empty nest syndrome. Once again, we just love techy things around here, so this Qualcomm project was part of the summer fun at LYON. (And AllJoyn was probably part of your summer fun, you just don't know it.)
07.06.12
We moved from Encinitas to Solana Beach almost 5 years ago and we decided it was finally time to retire our forwarding number, 760-634-1886. We'd love to hear from you, but call us at 858-350-4797.
06.13.12
Our newest client website for local company Procede Software.
www.procedesoftware.com
Great energetic team there, really growing the business (but you already know the awesome new website will be a key driver in future success, right?).
06.11.12
This short film for Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego let us see some of the best minds in the world hard at work on some of our biggest problems. It was pretty exciting stuff.
05.23.12
This time we're going to call out the music for your notice. Composer Woody Pak has been working with us on this series, and you can see more of his work on his site.

Now that UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center has held their 2012 Celebrity Chefs Cook gala event, we can show you our video that premiered at the event. If you feel inspired, it's never too late to make a donation!

04.17.12
Our recent work for the UCSD Health Sciences Development Department for last week's groundbreaking ceremony for the Jacobs Medical Center. We're thrilled to be part of San Diego's very bright future.
04.10.12
We loved the Subtext App when it was just for fun, but now imagine it in education. Wow!
04.08.12
Happy Easter! Here's something a little different for those of you sugared out on sweetness today.
03.18.12
Yeah, if you live in parts of Africa you might not have access to HSPA+. Everybody else, this is part of your daily life. Good to know.
03.09.12
Missouri-based agency, The Medical Package, brought us in as the production company on this film for local start-up Astute Medical. We hope it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
01.05.12
More gorgeous work for UC San Diego Health System. Makes you almost wish you were sick, these folks are so good.
01.01.12
Happy New Year!
12.23.11
We love to work, but we need a little rest right now. Call us in 2012!
11.03.11
This is up and running on local TV, so you've likely seen it, but it's our composer's very favorite of the spots and we somehow didn't post it when it first came out. You can see more of Ron Fountenberry's work at
soundbubblemusic.com
10.25.11
At last, the NDA isn't applicable! Susan LOVES this app, and if ever there were a product that was a perfect client for her, this is it (technology meets books and socializes). Subtext, we've been keeping it a secret since June!
09.12.11
Admit it, if you've got anything Apple, you're a little infatuated, swept away. It goes beyond pure logic. So we decided to recognize this part of ourselves as Mac owners with this new spot for Iomega's Mac Companion. Please, practice safe computing and back up your data.
09.06.11
There are so many devices in our homes, we liked the idea of getting everything in one place, via the biggest screen in the house with a keyboard remote. Enter Iomega TV with Boxee and network storage.
08.03.11
A different use for a bicycle built for two as Bubba takes on power duties while Mark films a UC San Diego Health System testimonial about a really inspirational guy, Matt Youmans.
07.07.11
A little pro bono for our local American Heart Association. We were impressed to learn that in San Diego for every $1 we give, they bring $5 back to our research and medical hubs. That's Mark's dad, Tom Lyon, who is in great health, demoing the not-quite-open Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center).
06.09.11
UC San Diego Health System's new Women and Infants spot. Hopefully the commercial says it all.
06.03.11
They say when one door closes another one opens. We're saying good-bye to Shaun Boyte who helped us create his position, while we welcome Bubba Durket who started with us two weeks ago.
05.09.11
Many of you know The Dude from Mark's time running the film side out of the house. He was returned to us today after 11 months on the run. He made it from Del Mar to Mission Viejo where he was found by hikers in a wilderness area. Thank goodness for microchip technology! He's just about a third of his body weight from his prime--down from 20 to 7 lbs. He now answers to "Lucky" Dude.
03.22.11
A fun collaboration with the folks at Qualcomm, lots of long, weekend hours, but it was well-received and that's what matters!
03.21.11
A little hail before the rain and it sure looks like it snowed in Solana Beach.
03.02.11
Websense's in-house team did much of the heavy lifting here, providing a headline storyboard and the Illustrator files, but the choreography was left to us. Lots of fun and a little outside the box for us.
02.25.11
While we don't consider Microsoft PowerPoint a force for good communication in the world, we do love to see a client presentation stay on brand while in a tool that's easily accessible to their in-house team.
02.23.11
We work hard and we tend to play hard, so we get sports medicine on a personal level. Sometimes we think all our film production chops make clients forget we've been doing print advertising for 20 years.
02.03.11
A little more in print to match the TV spots we did for the UC San Diego Health System's Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. For those of you who forget we work in all media.
02.02.11
The movie was great, but we hope you only have one Groundhog Day.
01.27.11
One of Susan's favorite projects because she gets to read all this great market insight, here's the Hokanson Associates Annual Report to clients.
01.10.11
Josie—great dog, good friend, and office mascot—passed away this weekend. She will be greatly missed.
12.24.10
We'd love to help you, but we are taking the 24th off (and if it's later on the afternoon of the 23rd, we might be cheating and getting a head start). Give us a call at 858-350-4797 on Monday or email us anytime--we can't stay away from email, even on vacation.
12.02.10
Our new downstairs neighbor, who serves really amazing coffee and crepes. The logo is good, but you should taste the food! Really worth coming here for a breakfast or lunch meeting sometime.
11.24.10
For everything our clients have trusted us to handle this year and for everything our crew has tackled to get the work done, as well as for health and happiness, we are truly thankful. If you're reading this, thank you, and enjoy the long weekend.
11.19.10
When our neighbors at the Boys & Girls Club mentioned they had a fundraiser coming up for their La Colonia program, we just couldn't resist helping them. Shaun and Susan spent a few hours there and some time back at the office. (The fundraiser was last night, but if you'd like to send a donation or get involved, please visit
http://www.positiveplacesd.org/
)
10.31.10
Happy Halloween. Come on by if you want some candy--we all seem to have zero trick or treaters every year, but we're optimists, so we all buy candy.
10.22.10
Another free afternoon so Shaun and Susan went to the Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito for summer camp. Here's Shaun's LYON directorial debut, part two in our ongoing film campaign for a great local non-profit.
09.14.10
Everyone in San Diego knows how great Qualcomm is about supporting the community and knows someone super smart who works there, but sometimes people aren't exactly sure what they actually do. They needed a TV spot, not to blow their own horn, but because they are the sponsors of this year's Salute to Teachers.
08.24.10
People have asked how the Boys & Girls Club Aquatics program video turned out. Well, here it is. They still owe a million bucks on that pool, so if you've got any spare change or a need for a big tax deduction, get in touch.
08.10.10
We've always loved and used Iomega portable data storage products and we always think technology is a pretty sexy field, but we don't usually get to write, film, or produce at the PG-13 level with our work.
08.06.10
CareFusion's Perioperative division needed a microsite--a solutions-oriented website to support traffic driven by a targeted campaign in other media. It's one of our favorite projects this summer.
http://or.carefusion.com/
07.06.10
Kawasaki Disease has no diagnostic test (yet). The KD Foundation is raising the funds to endow a research chair at UCSD to change that. We decided to help by donating our time to make their invites. You can order tickets to their September gala at
www.KDfoundation.org
.
06.01.10
Best wishes to you and Brett in Truckee!
05.28.10
Enjoy the long weekend. We'll see y'all in June.
05.03.10
While on location for the Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito Bring-it-on-a-thon fundraiser (our latest pro bono filming effort is to help them raise the million bucks they still owe on the "new" pool), Shaun and Susan turned around and couldn't figure out where Mark had gone.
03.01.10
Ah, Zinc Cafe. Brewers of the finest coffee in town. Monday mornings make you appreciate it all the more.
02.18.10
Yeeehaw. On location with our friend Scott "Waylon" Mires. We were collaborating on videos for a company that must remain nameless (but we can say it's not John Deere).
01.22.10
Another website up and running on time. See it live at
www.solanasolarenergy.com
01.15.10
Once again, we lose someone to another state! We're hoping we need to add another art director right about when she's ready to come back to San Diego County.
12.08.09
The positive spin is that great minds think alike. The negative is that we need to apply a little more creativity to our individual fashion sense. Shot on an iPhone by Mark, photo adjusted with three clicks on a cheap little app. Progress!
11.11.09
After 19 years, you'd think we'd be better prepared to say our goodbyes when people move on to their next adventure. Bye, Sam! (And while she's back in Oz until early January, she's looking for a job in New Orleans when she returns, so feel free to let us know if you've got a connection there!)
11.05.09
Despite California's budget woes, the state remains a hotbed of innovation and number one in solar technology. Our newest client, Solana Solar Energy, brings a wealth of experience to installing custom commercial solar, paying attention to all the little things. Like, for example, preserving your roof warranty!
11.04.09
Dana Innovations brought us in to work on the iPort website and brochure. With a long history of brilliant innovation it can be hard to write copy that doesn't get uppity with all the "first to" sentences. With a focus here on superior audio and design, they fit nicely into our best-of-breed client portfolio. (See our July 9 post for the matching website.)
11.02.09
We created this video to announce the merger of three sister organizations into a new group, the Technology Services Industry Association. The members had no idea this was going to happen until they saw this video at their annual conference. We shot it in one day using TSIA staff as our talent; they did a great job, and the video got fantastic response from their members. BTW, we also designed the logo that's unveiled at the end.
09.20.09
A favorite walk or run for many of us (particularly Josie), less than a mile from our office, this fundraising film for the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy is our latest pro bono effort.
09.01.09
CareFusion has a great internal team, but splitting off from former parent Cardinal Health had them maxed out, so they brought us in to help with a perioperative division push in their new look and feel.
07.31.09
Sometimes in film production you can get two for less than twice the price, if you carefully plan the production. Here's our latest twofer for Cox and Time Warner.
07.30.09
We love to poke fun at the competition so here's our latest work for Cox Communications and Time Warner.
07.16.09
Local accounting firm Polito Eppich brought us in to give them a website that did justice to their full-range of business services and the high energy level of the great people that make up the firm. Visit the actual site at
www.PolitoEppich.com
07.09.09
This was an amazingly fun project for a super-cool product (in-wall docking system for your iPod). Worth visiting the site to see the intro, if we do say so ourselves. Sonance's iPort website:

06.24.09
Filming a corporate video today. This one for long-time client Cardinal Health, this part of which is soon to be spin-off CareFusion. Palm Springs yesterday, San Diego today, St. Louis and El Paso later this week. Say hello to (l to r) Director Tom Seawell, AC Agathe Padovani, and Account Manager Michael Grace!
06.15.09
Flying, mooing, slingshot cows kick-off Wild Week Two for Cisco Systems are big Switching and Routing sales promotion for Cisco resellers all over North America. Deliverables included banners, fliers, stickers, website, and giveaways.
06.09.09
We always like to talk about our projects until the cows come home. Today they literally did. We could tell you more, but not before Monday when our client launches their promo. Until then, Caution: Stampede Ahead.
06.08.09
Shot in and around our office (recognize that woman hard at work in the background?), this is one of our recent projects with Qualcomm--as always, one of the leaders in inventing technology, QChat is just one more cool feature on their chips.
05.20.09
Novatel's MiFi is exactly the kind of new product that makes us crazy with desire. (Sorry, but it does!) Working with our good friends at MiresBall, with a week until the premiere in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress, we made this snappy little film that should kindle some desire in your geeky little heart. Unfortunately Mark and Susan Lyon didn't get to go to Barcelona.
05.14.09
This is Michael Grace's first out-of-town shoot and DFW has weather issues. He has to get the crew home from Indianapolis for the next day's work. Who needs reality TV?
03.20.09
Trade show graphic and film season is in full swing here in San Diego. Imagine Communications' booth (shown last year) has new graphics and is off to The Cable Show in DC.
03.06.09
Will work for food (especially when the job is a direct mail piece for the new Nestl? Lil' Drums frozen treat!)
01.20.09
Happy Inauguration Day. We're delighted to have a Blackberry-using President, but only because there were no iPhone-using candidates.
01.12.09
Axio Power is part of the green revolution you read about. Because we're definitely not giving up any of our electricity-using computers, iPods, TVs, iPod docks, etc. We're all really hoping to buy some solar energy so we don't have to feel so guilty.
12.12.08
We just received a Telly Award for a series of corporate films we made with our friends at Tellabs.
11.13.08
While we love our roots in print and web, film production is an increasing part of our advertising agency's workload.
10.30.08
Our own Jessica Steiniger hits the beach to take some shots for this year's holiday gift. Looks like we're in for another harsh winter in Solana Beach...
08.15.08
If you don't think research is sexy and creative, you haven't met the great minds at Hypothesis. They do high-level research (no Survey Monkeys for them) with an array of very impressive clients. Plus their taste is impeccable. With a new location in the Fine Arts Building in downtown Los Angeles, they needed a site at the same level.
www.hypothesisgroup.com
07.09.08
Buzztime's digital signage is going to clean up tables in bars (no more sticky table tents) but you'll probably be eating a lot more Happy Hour chicken wings when they're on special.

We showed you the Sonance product ad and now we're unveiling this little strip show. For anyone who wasn't as sure as we were that technology is the sexiest market of all.
06.01.08
Sonance's Architectural Series, the first truly flush in-wall speakers (September issue of Dwell, pick it up July 29). If that nasty little rim on your ceiling or wall speakers has been bothering you, this is the product to buy. Of course, you have to buy a house first.
12.11.07
One of our recent ads for Sonance, makers of the world's most stylish speakers, appeared this month in Dwell magazine. Stay tuned for fresh Sonance creative in the weeks ahead!
09.26.07
A new corporate folder we designed for American Wave Machines, a manufacturer of standing wave surf machines. Shaka bro.
08.13.07
Some creative advertising agencies would shudder at the thought of designing a 300-page technical guide. Not LYON. We welcome the opportunity to dive into the details. These three guides we recently completed for Cisco are a prime example.
06.29.07
Another piece of the marketing puzzle for Cisco Partner Career Fairs. These Flash web banners appeared on USA Today and Business Week websites.
06.06.07
LYON’s going national with theses ads in USA Today, The Boston Globe, and The San Jose Mercury News to recruit talented IT professional to work for Cisco Partners.
05.24.07
Cisco Partner, CDW-G, asked us to adapt these print ads for their national trade publications.
04.26.07
Here's our latest creations for Infinera, a corporate brochure and folder, showing the latest evolution of a brand we've developed since the global leader in optical networks was founded.
